SACT Future Service Delivery

In recognition of the need to ensure safe and sustainable services whilst meeting this increasing demand for Systemic Anti Cancer Therapy (SACT) the West of Scotland NHS Boards and Regional Planning Group (RPG) established a project team to determine the short and medium term developments and redesign required to safely and effectively meet current and future demands.

The Regional SACT Future Service Delivery Strategic Review looked at cancer treatment across the health boards speaking with patients, carers and staff across the West of Scotland.

The review found many examples of innovative care and best practices which have now been developed into a recommended service model to ensure high-quality, safe and sustainable SACT services for patients in the West of Scotland.

Each West of Scotland NHS Board is progressing local implementation of the Strategic Review recommendations.

SACT Future Service Delivery – Strategic Review and Emerging Service Model

To inform the emerging model, a patient experience survey was carried out in 2017 across all units delivering day case SACT in the West of Scotland. Further public and carer engagement was carried out in early 2018 including focus groups in each Board area.

A report on progress with Phase 1 of the project was submitted to RPG in February 2016:
