The Head and Neck Cancer Managed Clinical Network has created a series of educational videos for patients undergoing either Trans-Oral Robotic Surgery (TORS) or Laryngectomy as part of their head and neck cancer treatment. These videos cover pre-habilitation (commonly referred to as “prehab”), which spans from the initial suspicion of cancer through to treatment. The focus of prehab is on making improvements to physical and mental health, which can lead to better treatment outcomes. This includes advice on physical activity, dietary and nutritional changes, and support for mental and emotional wellbeing. In addition to pre-operative information, the videos provide guidance on what to expect in the immediate pre and post-operative periods, as well as during recovery at home and on a follow up pathway.
These videos have been created by a team of head and neck cancer specialists, including experts in nursing, anaesthetics, speech and language therapy (SLT), and dietetics. Additionally, clinical specialists at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre have produced videos focused on radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
