Pharmacy Network

The Cancer Pharmacy Speciality Network is a collaborative group of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians from the four NHS Boards in the West of Scotland with representation from acute care, primary care and public health. Its purpose is to support a coordinated approach to the planning and delivery of safe, clinically and cost effective pharmacy services for cancer patients in the West of Scotland in all care sectors.

 The group is led by the Regional Cancer Care Pharmacist who represents Pharmacy on the Regional Cancer Clinical Leads Group and, as appropriate, on Regional Cancer Advisory Group.
 Key objectives include:
  • To develop a network approach to the development, planning and delivery of pharmaceutical care.
  • To identify pharmaceutical care issues which could be effectively advanced through cooperation between hospital, community and public health pharmacy.
  • To ensure learning and best practice are shared and implemented where applicable within the network.
  • To promote research and development into pharmaceutical care of patients with cancer.
  • To promote a national approach to the development of pharmaceutical care in collaboration with pharmacy colleagues in South East Scotland Cancer Network and North of Scotland Cancer Network.
  • In collaboration with the MCNs and the Prescribing Advisory Sub Group promote a uniform approach to the safe, clinical and cost effective use of cancer medicines.
The network also ensures close collaboration with the MCNs by coordinating pharmacist representation on each of the disease specific MCNs. The pharmacist representative participates in MCN activities and advises on pharmaceutical and medicines related issues.
